1 · Eligibility
Some pages and programs (membership applications, member portals, certain training events) are restricted to active or retired sworn law enforcement personnel and approved allied disciplines. By submitting an application or registration, you represent that you meet the stated eligibility criteria. Misrepresentation is grounds for revocation, refund forfeiture, and (in serious cases) referral to the appropriate licensing or employing authority.
2 · Membership
- Applications are reviewed by the membership committee — typically within seven (7) business days.
- Annual dues are charged at submission and held pending committee review.
- If your application is approved, your membership is active for twelve (12) months from the approval date and renews on the anniversary.
- If your application is declined, dues are refunded in full to the original payment method, typically within 5–10 business days.
- NJHIA reserves the right to suspend or revoke membership for conduct unbecoming of the association or violations of these terms.
3 · Event registrations
- Registration is per-attendee; registrations are not transferable to another person without written approval from staff.
- Cancellation and refund terms vary by event and are stated on each event page.
- By registering, you agree to abide by the venue's rules and the conduct expectations of the host agency / training provider.
- NJHIA may cancel or reschedule an event for low enrollment, instructor availability, weather, or force majeure. Registration fees for cancelled events are refunded in full.
- CEU credits are issued only to attendees who complete the full course / required hours.
4 · Donations
- NJHIA is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization (EIN 26-3742994).
- Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Each contribution generates an electronic receipt suitable for IRS substantiation under Pub. 1771.
- Recurring donations renew monthly until cancelled. You can cancel at any time by contacting us.
- No goods or services are provided in exchange for charitable contributions.
5 · Store purchases
- Store sales are not tax-deductible — they are commercial transactions, not contributions.
- Returns and exchanges accepted within 30 days of delivery on unused items in original condition.
- Shipping rates are shown at checkout. Title and risk of loss pass to the buyer when the package leaves NJHIA's fulfillment partner.
- NJHIA may cancel and refund any order at our discretion, e.g. pricing errors, inventory issues, or where eligibility verification fails.
6 · Payments
All payments are processed by Stripe. Card numbers and authentication data never touch NJHIA servers. Disputes (chargebacks) follow Stripe's standard process. Persistent or fraudulent disputes may result in permanent removal of association privileges.
7 · User accounts
- You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential.
- Don't share login links — they grant access to your member portal.
- Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.
8 · Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the site to harass, defame, threaten, or impersonate any person.
- Scrape, mirror, or republish member rosters, training materials, or case-review content.
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of any system without written permission.
- Submit false eligibility information to access restricted programs.
- Upload or transmit malware, or attempt to disrupt service for other users.
9 · Intellectual property
The site, training materials, member directory entries, and all NJHIA content are owned by NJHIA or its members and licensors. You may view and use them for the purposes of your membership / registration; you may not reproduce or redistribute them outside the association without written permission.
10 · Disclaimer of warranties

11 · Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, NJHIA, its directors, officers, employees, and volunteers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site or participation in NJHIA programs. Our aggregate liability for any claim is limited to the amounts you've paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
12 · Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless NJHIA from claims arising from (a) your violation of these terms, (b) your misuse of the site, or (c) your violation of any law or third-party right.
13 · Governing law + venue
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Mercer County, New Jersey.
