FAQ / BEFORE YOU APPLY

Common questions.

What if my application is not approved?
If the committee determines you don't meet the eligibility criteria, your dues are refunded in full. You'll receive a written explanation and, where applicable, a path to re-apply (e.g., once you're assigned to a qualifying unit).
Are dues tax-deductible?
NJHIA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so portions of your dues attributable to a charitable purpose may be deductible. Consult your tax advisor — the IRS treats professional-association dues differently from straight charitable contributions.
Can my agency pay on my behalf?
Yes. Many departments cover member dues out of training or professional-development budgets. Email homicideconference@njsp.gov for an invoice in lieu of card payment.
When do I get charged for renewal?
Twelve months after your initial payment. You'll receive a reminder 14 days before the renewal charge and can cancel from your member dashboard before it processes.
Is there a member directory?
Yes — a vetted directory limited to active members, used for case-related peer consultation. It is never shared with vendors, marketers, or external parties.
READY TO APPLY

Vetting takes about a week. Most members hear back faster.
